Hello Edinburgh.

Playsuit: topshop
Cropped Jumper: missguided
Boots: h&m
Necklace: poundland (can you believe it?)

With a teary goodbye, I left Wales and have returned to Edinburgh for the New Year. I am so excited for 2015. I feel like it is really going to be a good one. I'm on the right track (baby, I was born this way) and I am ready to take on the next chapter. I am thinking of resolutions but I'm not a big fan of those things, I can never keep them and then feel bad so I think I'm just going to say that my New Years resolution is to keep positive.

What are your resolutions?

Things I have learned in 2014

As 2014 draws to an end, I have been reflecting on the year passed. I hope this enlightens you. Have a wonderful new year and may 2015 bring you all the happiness you deserve

It's ok to walk away from something that makes you unhappy.

Going through a shit time will make you stronger.

Have the grace of Audrey Hepburn with same amount of shits to give as Lady Gaga (that's 0).

I'm still learning. I don't know it all yet.

Stress gets you nowhere.

Don't have sex. Or will get cystitis and die.

I can never have enough shoes.

Eyebrows are important.

Things do work out in time.

Appreciate everything. Every person you meet and every breathe you take *cue song* .

Don't view and take a flat when you're hungover. Just because it has a bed -It's probably not what you want.
Doing the opposite of what people expect of you can be fun.

Making pack lunches does save money.

Navy and black don't go together.

Mum is usually right.

Nana is wise.

Mice are spawns of satan.

The Christmas Post.

Merry Christmas!

'Tis the season to be jolly. Tra la la la la la la la la la -I may have done too many la's.

Anyways, you get the jist. I wanted to say Merry Christmas to everyone. I truly do wish you have a wonderful day what ever you are doing and who you are with.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to ANOTHER blogger's event. This time it was at a Mad Hatter's Tea Party held in the spectacular White Stuff Edinburgh store. As always, it was lovely seeing the girls again and meeting other bloggers too.

"So what was it like?" I hear  you ponder.

The Cambridge Satchel Company

A very delayed post, I am very sorry. I have been super busy with work, getting organised for Christmas and attending blogging events. I think now is a good time to agree that time organising my time is a good new years resolution.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I was invited to attend a bloggers' event at the Cambridge Satchel Company on George Street, Edinburgh. It is a pop up shop which will be there for 4 months and it is fabulous! I urge if you are ever in the city then make sure you visit it.

Day Dreamers Brunch

So I'm just getting use to this whole "blogger's lifestyle." This lifestyle includes setting time to write posts, take photos, ask people to take photos and go to events. I can tell you that this is very exciting. Suddenly I have been thrown emails and invites all to do with my little blog. Like what the eff?

Getting into the Swing of Things

I was invited to Swing Patrol's dancing event which in sponsored by KEDS footwear. KEDS are the chosen footwear for swing patrol and only when I received a pair myself, I can understand why.

Happy Black Friday

Black Friday plans

Black Friday plans by katiewilliams-101

Brace yourself, it's Black Friday!

Friday 28th of November is also known as Black Friday. Originally from America, it has found its way across the ocean and over to our British stores. Shops discount their stock and us fashion lovers go crazy. Discounts for new clothes and probably a great time to start Christmas shopping.  I can't really justify going on this big spending spree apart from the fact that it's also...PAY DAY!

So here is my tips on how to handle Black Friday.

1: Get up early.
You're not the only one who knows about these discounts and you want to get everything you want.

2: Plan.
Look on websites, have an idea what you're getting or looking out for. There's a lot of clothes and you do not want to get lost in all of the discounts.

3: Take the opportunity
This is your last pay day before Christmas so use the discounts to grab your Christmas pressies. Do the Christmas presents near the start of your spree. I hate it when I do my Christmas shopping mid Decemeber in Poundland.

4: Keep your receipts!
Ok, kind of a cheeky one. When I go a bit mad on my shopping trips, I buy a ton of stuff, get home and then realise, I actually don't suit that lime green blouse. Working in retail myself, I hate returning, but sometimes it has to be done.

5: Enjoy yourself and treat yourself.
You're getting a discount. You can justify it. Happy shopping ladies!

Winter Wonders

Winter Wonders

Winter Wonders by katiewilliams-101

It's getting colder, the parka has been brought back to life and there is a bite in the crisp Scottish air. Winter has arrived. Edinburgh can only be desrcibed as a Winter Wonderland. All the shops have got their Christmas creative in and there is a wonderful magical feel.

It is my favourite time of year and I have come up with a list of essentials of things you need and need to do.

  1. Get out your knitwear.
It is getting chilly so it's time to layer up with some cosy cable knits. For the past few years now, your gran's cardi has been taking a stroll on catwalks.
  2. Drink hot chocy.
Hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows is the ultimate winter warmer. Don't care about the calories. We need extra layers to keep warm.
  3. Tartan.
Just get it. I have a tartan scarf and a tartan skirt. They are my favourite pieces in my wardrobe this season. You cannot go wrong with it.
  4. Invest in ankle boots.
Ankle boots can be dressed up, dressed down and go with everything. Find the right pair for you. I think it is always worth investing in a good pair of boots. I have had a pair, similar to the ones in my polyvore set, for 5 years. I wap them out every year and fall in love with them all over again.
  5. Spend time with your loved ones.
Christmas is about friends and family. There is nothing more I love than being all snuggly  on the sofa with my friends, watching XFactor with a heap of junk food.
  6. Get into the Christmas Spirit.
The build up to that day is usually better than the actual day, so enjoy the smell of cinnamon and the buzz in your town because come January, we're all going to be skintos and a not doing our new year resolutions.

And it's only 38 days until Christmas!

TOPSHOP EVENT: The Personal Shopping Experience

The personal shopper's selection

I am a self confessed shopaholic and clothes lover. My favourite shops at the moment are H&M and Topshop. When I saw that there was an event being held at the glamorous Gusto's by Topshop, all previous plans were dropped. Topshop gave us an insight to their A/W14 collection and personal stylists created some cracking outfits. I have pulled together a couple of them to show you my favourites.

The sleeveless vest and sleeveless blazer is not something I'd think of but I think it looks really smart and I am definitely going to try it out.

Burgundy has been a very popular Autumnal colour on the high street for a few years now and it is not going anywhere. Topshop presented burgundy jeans, a burgundy hat and burgundy culottes. So if you want some colour in your A/W wardrobe, it looks like it will be burgundy.

They had 3 styles of shoes. Strappy high sandals, ankle boots and knee high boots. They suggested that these are your staple when it comes to winter footwear. Add boots for an edgy/casual look and a sandal for a classier style.

The girls emphasised that the personal shopping is a complimentary service. There is no extra costs. It is a great way if you are wanting a new look or are not sure how to dress for your body shape. I'm tempted to take on this experience after Christmas. I've been buying quite a few pieces of clothes recently so I'm trying to give my bank account a break and then, in theory, I can go on a big shopping splurge. Hooray!

But until I can spend my money in Topshop on their lovely things, the freebee lipstick they gave will have to do.

Sick of Celeb Culture

Celebrities can inspire us normal people through fashion, fitness and lifestyles. However they also inspire the front covers of magazines and topics of discussion. Most recently the face of Renee Zellwegger has been the most talked about topic through media, magazine and television.

Taken from Daily Mail. Left: October 2014. Right: 2001

Everyone has been questioning the transformed face of the Bridget Jones star. She claims that she is living a happier lifestyle and is at peace with herself. Well we can't argue with that can we? Actually, it seems that people can. Through media people have been coming up with theories and a lot of people have been slagging the actor's new look off.

Yes, she does look different from that picture in 2001 but I know that I look different from 2001 too. Renee Zelwegger does not tend to be in the media's spotlight unlike other actors and she is 45. People are saying that she looks older. Well, duh!
You are comparing her to images of her Bridget Jones days. Of course she is going to look older. So what if she has lost weight, got a tan, had surgery? She's happy.

To be honest, does it really matter? Why are people getting so wound up by her appearance? How, in any way does this affect us? It doesn't.

This is what I hate about celeb culture. Magazines throw these trashy articles about celebs looking different or being cruel about what they wear and readers can get so into it that it becomes a hot topic. Can we just take a moment to realise there are bigger things in the world that you could be discussing instead of Kate Middleton's uneven curls.

I love fashion and I love talking about it but when television programmes counts something of this as news, it makes my blood boil. I don't want see this as "Breaking News." And I'm sure that the celebrities and Royals would prefer not to see their faces with scandals written around it.  When I create my own magazine-which is the dream- I will be looking to celebs for inspiration with their bold and confident outfits and only praise will go to them. Through their deep and meaningful speeches-Sandra Bullock comes to mind- I want to spread their thoughts and wisdom.

It's time to stop being so shallow and time to appreciate the real work that celebrities do in life, not to their appearances. At the end of the day, they are the rich and famous and will always be somewhat fabulous either way.

Welcome to the ArtRave.

It started with Just Dance and she has most recently released Jazz album, Cheek To Cheek and I have been with her all the way. It had been a long 5 months waiting since booking my tickets but on the 19th of October I saw Lady Gaga live. I had been waiting 6 years to see my most treasured singer live. Her ArtRave tour came all the way to Glasgow. She had travelled from Dublin to London and then to Glasgow for us

"Say Cheese!" : An Edinbloggers Photo Shoot

Fara, Laura, Louise, myself and Cynthia

When I was asked to join the Edinbloggers Facebook group by Nicole Findley from Cocomadeherdoit , I had no idea what I was accepting. This community has been well organised by founders, Farah from Faz Fashion Diary, Emily from Frankly-Ms-Shankly and Sultana Malik. Events and meet up were set up by them for us little bloggers and one of them which I was able to attend was a photo shoot.

World Mental Health Day: The Weight On My Shoulders.

Today is World Mental Health Day. This is a topic that is close to my heart. Along with knowing many people who have suffered and are suffering from mental health issues, I, myself have suffered. It is so important to break the stigma. Self harmer, crazy, clean freak, depressed, schizophrenic, anorexic,  alcoholic, physco are not things people should be labelled with. It is something that they are battling with.
 It does not define them.

Living with a mental health issue is difficult enough as well having insensitive, ignorant people judging them. This needs to stop. People need to have the knowledge of what it is really like and offer support.

(Sorry, this is a lengthy post, but I'm worth it!)

Here's what I went through...

A trip down memory lane...

I came across my old college blog today and thought I would share it with you.
Years ago I started blogging on tumblr and had about 4 different accounts for different things. Here is my college one which consists of theatre reviews (mandatory for HND Acting), my thoughts on monologues and theatre and college in general. It's quite cute really.

http://itsalittledramatic.tumblr.com/

Funnily enough my lecturer even advised me to think about doing more theatre reviews while at college as they were "quite good." It seems even then everyone knew I was doing the wrong course. Ah well. I'm going to do the right thing now. Journalism is the right thing for me and I am so excited. Terrified, but excited.

It's 3rd of October, or as the yanks like to say...

Happy Friday if you have that Friday feeling. But if you are like me and are working day and night all weekend, I say, hang in there. Think of the money.

September has been a strange month in Edinburgh. It hasn't been cold like the years past and the summer clothes haven't been packed away just yet. Although today the temprature hase dropped and it is bucketing down with rain. My plans for shopping has been postponed and my plans for blogging and selling things on ebay have been picked up. With the British weather being so unpredictable I think you need to have all seasons of clothing near by. Don't ever pack away your clothes due to season. Until it starts to snow then maybe it's time to put your sandals in their box. Blue feet are not attractive. A parka is essential in Britain. It is so cosy and thank god that it is now classed as fashionable. My parka is two sizes to big but I'm going to go down the "It's a statement piece and over-sized clothing is cool." road. It's really because they didn't have my size and I got fed up with looking for a coat so I just grabbed it and thought-this will do. It feels like a duvet and I regret nothing.

Have you got your winter coat? What's your staple piece for Winter?

Love Your Selfie

We are the generation of social media, hashtags, food photos and selfies. We feel the need the take a photo, post a status or tweet about everything. If it enters our brain, we will let the world know.

I definitely am one of these people. I am a self confessed social media addict and have been ever since I got Bebo when I was 12. Since then the selfies grew. I noticed my friends doing it first and they looked so pretty. It took me a while to get the confidence to take that first photo and put it on my soical media site. It was a simple smile before bed with two plaits in my hair to tame my mane. 8 years later and I'm still taking selfies.

Welcome to my wardrobe: My wee tartan skirt

Looking through Glamour Magazine, Company, Vogue and Porter, I became very excited with the new season styles. As you can tell from my previous posts I have been spending time on Polyvore creating outfits. For the past week I have been going back to tartan skirts as the staple item for my wish list outfits. I don't know what it is but I love them so much. Tartan is always so popular for autumn/winter and after the referendum (no matter what you voted) being Scottish is being embraced.

I'm so proud of Scotland and it's enthusiasm through this time. I love the sound of the bagpipes and they always get a funny feeling when I hear them, I love that my grandparents can't understand what the Scots say, it's like a secret language and since living here for 17 years, I can get patriotic for Scotland. Yet, I do not own any tartan.

Say whaaaat?

Yeah. I know.

I have been on the hunt for a tartan skirt since last year. Last night I spent 3 hours searching the internet for one that I really liked and today the search ended. Today I got my skirt. In the unlikely place of New Look during my lunch break. I tend to avoid it since you can't cross the street without seeing someone wearing something from New look but this skirt fits perfectly and when I wear it, to quote Jessie J, "I'm feeling sexy and free. Like glitter's raining on me".
Those polyvore outfits can now come to life!

Skirt: New Look £17.99
Jumper: Primark £12
Boots: h&m £29.99

Polyvore creations

I like mini skirts, ankle boots and tote bags. A lot.

I have noticed that I'm posting very similar posts recently and I have to admit it is because I have been so busy. I don't want to leave my blog dormant so I've been updating it as much as I can with little posts like this. I am getting more time off now since the summer is over and work is dying down. Thank god! Keep your eyes peeled for my next post and thank you so much for sticking around. :) Big Hugs and kisses!

On my way home from working at the pub, I have recently found myself gazing into New Look's window on Princes Street. They have done well for themselves this season. I really like what they have going on. The tartan, the capes and the jumpers. It's like they are tailoring to different styles this time. They have the boho\hipster, the trend setters and the grunge girls. With the knits and shades, I think this is a perfect outfit for autumn. I really like burgundy and blue together. The blue in the skirt just lifts it a bit. I would wear the skirt with my go-to cosy tights from Primark. If you haven't yet tried them, I urge you to get a couple of pairs. They are a life saver! Skirts are still acceptable in the colder months and the 60's mini skirt is making a statement.  I love the 70s/60s look and have made a little New Look wish list since it is my BIRTHDAY AND PAY DAY THIS FRIDAY! Shopping will be done whether I am hungover or not. It's looking more likely to be honest.

I have already bought a new dress for graduation which is also on Friday so I will be posting photos of that on my instagram. If you're not following me then please do. I'm struggling to sit down and write blog posts at the moment so you can keep an eye on me over at @littlekaatie101 or on twitter @this_katie . I'm a hoot and I follow back. :) A win, win, right?

Stay Fabulous!

Time To Get Yer Layers On!

I just love capes. They are a perfect statement in Scotland. Suddenly you can feel like a Scottish Super Hero, powering through the wind, rain and snow this season.

This Burberry Cape has been seen worn by the lovely Cara Delevingne and she inspired me to put these things together.

Layer up, it's chilly

Mango gray shirt
$29 - johnlewis.com

Burberry red wool cape
$1,460 - net-a-porter.com

H&M high heel booties
$49 - hm.com

H M wool hat
$24 - hm.com

Ulta lipstick

River Island Girls black metallic bow back skater dress
$29 - riverisland.com

I feel like I definitely need to get a cape this season. I already have a floppy hat and I have including my smashing new boots in this set. By adding a belt to a cape, allows there to be some structure if you like the tailored look, which I do sometimes. It can look very classy with a pair of skinny jeans too. Burgundy is the autumn/winter colour which is so rich and can easily be worn. Using accessories of that colour is the perfect transition into the new season. River Island has a wonderful tartan cape that I can see myself investing in. We shall see.

Until next time,
