A Little Spontanious Thursdays

You know how you get these people that wake up one day and just get a tattoo or wake up in Paris? I'm not one of those people.

I am the type of girl that likes to have a plan and is scared in case something goes wrong and I might die. Yep. Die. I am that girl.

Yet, somehow today, my planned day off with Audrey Hepburn films ended up with me returning from a Fringe show, drunk and... with a new peiricing.

WHAT?

Since deciding that I wanted to pursue a career in acting, I was vey content with my peircings in just my ear lobes (being a blank canvas and laadeedah shit) but today I got the top of ear pierced. I just decided it. I have been thinking about getting done for ages but today I actually did it. I went with my flatmate and we both got it done. I was nervous, freaked out and suddenly got a case of tarets as she put the needle through my ear but it was the most spontanious thing I have done in about a year. I love it.. It is to remind me that this year out is my year. To be spontaniuous and make the most of it in this big bad world.

Just one peircing at the top of my ear may not seem much to you but to me it's huge. I feel like this has broken me away from the classic "prim and proper" look that I get labled with.

This year is the year of change and discovery.

Little Katie

Healthy body. Healthy Mind.

Hello there! It's been too long! A week since my last post! I am so sorry that I haven't blogged in a whilie but I have been busy organising paperwork for my new flat. Yes, you heard right, I finally have a new flat! Up until last Wednesday I thought I was going to be homeless after August, when this flat's tenancy ends, and I am moving into a 2 bed flat with my bestie. It's going to be so cosy and will definitely be doing a post once I move in about how I decorated our new "crib". Anyhoos, along with work everyday, that is what has been keeping me from my blog :( I know, it makes me sad too. It's hard to juggle everything.

But things are changing.

Wednesday Wish List. The Military Jacket.

Hello my sweets! Hope you're having a fabulous week! I have been non stop working (sad face). However, in the shop, I noticed my manager's jacket hanging up in the cloakroom. It was similar to this one...

I stared at it for possibly too long (maybe tried it on) and thought to myself how I would never be able to wear something so...not pretty. Despite it not being to my taste, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The manager wears it so well which inspired me to think of outfits I could team it with to create something for everyone. It turns out this military jacket can be quite versatile and gives a cool look to simple numbers.

Miltitary Jacket: Armed with Flowers

I just love mixing styles. Girly and floral with grungy military. Effortlessly throw the jacket on and you look like you're with the band (I'm thinking of a Nirvana type) without trying to hard and copying your boyfriend. This is more my look. I would choose to wear this in the summer when it gets a bit chilly at night when you're out in town or the beach.

This is my little 90's inspired look. Crop top? Check. Mom Jeans? Check. Scrunchie? Check. Awesome jacket? Check! You're looking fabulous and you can take this look up town to lunch which may turn into cocktail hour, which will most likely turn into a night out. I colour pops with shoes. I think it just looks so cool and fabulous. I have seen many celebs do it, so if Diane Kruger can do it, so can I.

I didn't really know what to call this look. I wanted to say "cool" but that seemed, well...very uncool. So hipster seems appropriate. Shorts, converses and dream catchers. Tumblr "hipsters" and this is what you get. I actually like this look and would wear in a second. It is so casual and by adding tights and a cardigan you can take this look with you through autumn. I'd wear it with high heeled boots, not converses. I need my heels. I like being a few more inches of fabulous.

So there are my looks. Hope you're enjoying the summer! It's heatwave week in Scotland and I'm a little lobster. Where's my factor 50 sunblock?!

Flower Power.

I've got  the flower power!

My little Miss Selfridge crop top is back with my White Stuff jeggings. I don't own a kimono but I rooted around my flat mates wardrobe and found this lacey number from H&M.

This shoes were a steal from a charity shop. Barely worn and so fabulous. I love love love them!!

And here's the finished project! Ta dah!

Keep it fabulous with flower power and love, people. This world is falling apart with war and hatred. All we can do here is love. Love others and love yourself.

Liebster Award Nomination!

Ooh would you look at that!

I am so thankful for Yang Loves to have nominated me. I am just starting to see my blog come together and fabulous to see that people (almost 70 followers worth) are reading my posts. I have so much love for you! The Liebster Award gives a chance for blogs with under 200 followers to be noticed and nominated.

My answers to the beautiful Yang's question.

1) How did you choose your blog's name?
I'm 5"1 so Little Katie seems appropriate and I like writing down my thoughts.

2) What is your favourite nail colour?
I am so bad at doing my nails so I always opt for very light pink. It makes them look healthy and shiny.

3) If you had to choose between fake nails, fake lashes and hair extensions, which would you go for?
Fake nails. Mine are so weak and short. I dont need extensions and false eyelashes scare me.

4) Gold or silver jewellery?
ooh toughy! I'm going to go for silver. No. Gold! No.Silver. Ach I don't know! Both! I choose both!!

5) Do you play any musical instruments?
No. Always wish I could though.

6) Who is your ultimate celebrity girl crush and why?
Jennifer Lawrence. She is so uncool that she' cool. She reminds me of myself sometimes. But Blake Lively is gorgeous. But Jen Law is ultimate.

7) Smokey eyes or cat liner?
Cat liner! I can't do smokey eye make up.

8) What are your 3 holy grail skincare products?
Clean and Clear face wash scrub, simple toner and clinique moisturiser.

9) If you had to shop from one brand of beauty products for the rest of your life, which would it be?
YSL. It's expensive but if I'm always going to poor because of it, I can at least look fabulous.

10) Which blogger/vlogger would you most like to meet?
Zoella. I think she's great and really down to earth

11) Have you considered to become a full-time blogger (if not one already)?
I would love to do it. Just not sure how.

Top Of The Crops.

The Spice Girls did it. Britney did it. We're doing it. I'm talking about the fashion statement that is being seen everywhere. The Crop-Top.

Spice up your life with a crop top.

What Katie Did Next: A Little Pick Me Up.

How do you get out of a little rut? There are different solutions, mine is making the most of your days, whether it is meeting up with people or just enjoy relaxing watching disney films. Whatever it, enjoy it. Don't worry as much and keep looking forward to a promising future.

I have had a bit of a lifestyle change since leaving college. When most of my days are filled with working, I have forced myself to make the most of my days off, look at the positives in everything, set goals and become focused.

And Breathe...

Positive Vibes.
Bar work has been difficult for me as it isn't want I want to do or even enjoy. However it has become easier and the wages pay the bills. I have picked it up quickly and with bar experience I will be able to get a job if  I   when I go travelling. I still work at the shop and will be getting more hours and I still love it. I love the people I work with, the customers and the way I care about the clothes. I have been so lucky to work for such a wonderful company.

Make the most.
If you follow my instagram @littlekaatie101, you would have noticed that most of my OOTD consist of work uniforms so I like the make the most of my days off and dress fabulously.
"Dress as if you are going to bump into your worst enemy."
I am getting really sick of eating junk food all the time. I don't usually make time to eat and prepare food so I eat on the go and it's usually chocolate. I am going back to my healthy mind, healthy body mindset. Make time to eat and make sure I'm getting my 3 meals a day and fruit and veg.

Set goals and ACHIEVE those bad boys!
I have been looking at uni courses and journalism and media have been taking my interest. I want to inspire people, help people and get my little voice heard. I want to be like Dawn O'Porter (have you seen her awesome new tv show?). I want to be a stylist and make people feel good in a new dress with killer heels, then they can go home and read my new column about self confidence. Things are starting to look a bit clearer now and the fact that university courses are appealing to me is a relief. It gives me a new focus and blogging is part of it.

I am going to contact a little online magazine and ask for advice, an opportunity to give me a taster of writing. It's a goal. I need to work towards it. My writing needs a lot of improvement before I can show a company.

This year out is starting to look up, I am going to focus on achieving the goals I set. I am not going to procrastinate and I am going to make it. We all are.

Mad For Mad Men.

I apparently have been living under a rock since 2007 and only just started watching Mad Men last month but "holy smokes" I am in love! Already on season 3, I have fallen in love with the cast, music, costumes and story lines. Set in the 1960s, Mad Men follows the lives of those in the advertising business on Madison Avenue, focusing on the mysterious, but dashing, Donald Draper.

Working in an office doesn't seem that glamourous, but with the sexy secretaries, things get heated up throughout the entire building. It's the 60s so of course everyone is smoking and drinking in pretty much every scene. I suppose it is how the men cope with the stress of work and having affiars and it is how the women cope being houewives to these men. Mad Men shows how different the lives are between the men in the office and the women at home. The times are very different and this show highlights that, maybe exaggerating sometimes, but the show allows us to see the changes in society.

My besties;

Peggy Olsen starts off as just a secretary but through the first two seasons she becomes POWER WOMAN! She makes a point that girls can have brains and work in the mad, fast industry of advertising. I love her! You go girl!

Joanie is the supervisor of the secretaries, she rules the roost and makes sure that everyone knows it. She uses her brains and assets to get what she wants and she can wrap any man around her finger. However, jealousy creeps upon her when she sees Peggy branch out. I like that they did that. Shows that she's human and has flaws too.

Don Draper is just so suave. He can sell anything to anyone and can get any woman he wants without being creepy. Okay, he has a wife who has depression and is stuck in a house all day, but when you're Don Draper, you don't need to worry yourself about that. Don has no family and through the seasons, you find out more and more about his hidden past. And it's a good one.

There is so many issues that are relevant to today as well as the issues from the 60s which really makes you appreciate how things are now. Women's rights, technology, equality, integration and fashion. I love the costumes in Mad Men and what is great is that they wear the same things again so it makes it more realistic. You get a true sense of the characters from their clothes. Joan is the best example there. Her Munro like curves are shown off in red dresses. She can make a statement wherever she goes.

Watch at least the first 3 episodes. You will be hooked.

Audrey Hepburn is my ultimate idol. I think idol is an understatement actually. She is everything I aspire to. Even as she rests, I admire her with all of my heart. I am currently reading a biography of her and I am realising the hardship she went through as a child. She lived through the terrors of WWII in Holland, moved to a different country (England) and became a star. She broke the mould of Hollywood. She was not the average "type" of star. She was tall, thin and reserved. But she had something in those big eyes that captured the heart of everyone.

Audrey's style was classic. She kept it simple with mostly black and white or block colours. Being thin, she kept necklines high and her tiny waist was highlighted with structure. A drawn in waist and shape on the hips from clothes was her main look. In the 60's the waist in dresses was dropped with the arrival of the shift dress and Audrey's tall figure could perfectly pull this off. She didn't need flamboyant fashion to make a statement, she kept it simple and structured. Her beauty and elegance shined through.

Of course everyone knows her for Breakfast at Tiffany's (admittedly not my favourite film of hers), but did you know that during WWII her mother, a Baroness in the Netherlands, opened their doors to the homeless and starved. They all lived on tiny portions gruel, including little Audrey. At that time she suffered from malnutrition, edema and anaemia. It was her haunting war time experience and pure heart that drove her to join UNICEF later.

Audrey originally trained to be a ballerina but being 5"7, she was a difficult dance partner and  it was said that she "was not the best dancer". However she looked very good on screen. She found her true calling as she first had a selection of cameos in films and slowly worked her way up until she got her deserved recognition in "Roman Holiday" with the dashing Gregory Peck.  Her fame rose from there.

Audrey became an icon on screen, in fashion and with society. Her grace, elegance and kindness glowed around her. She only wanted to love. She wanted to share her love with everyone she could. Audrey became an ambassador for Unicef and retired from acting to care for her family. Everyone should have the same kindness in their heart as she did. She is a true angel.

You can also get her classic style so easily in the high street. I created the set above on Polyvore. You can't go wrong with a bit of Hepburn inspiration.

Scottish Summertime

"It's Okay Not To Be Okay, Okay?"

It's that saying that is everywhere. Cliché as it is, it stands to be true. We do not always have to be happy and strong. We, as humans, are allowed to be sad, angry, stressed, anxious and a heap of other emotions. We are allowed to make mistakes and we are allowed to turn around and say; "No."

I have just recieved a HND in Acting and Performance. After 8 years of working towards going to a a drama school or performing arts college, after 2 years of hard work in Edinburgh College, I turned around and said, "This isn't for me anymore." Much to my family's dismay. They were probably happy that I am no longer chasing a little girl's dream but they're quick to respond with, "Well if acting isn't what you want to do, then what is?" Which I answer, "I don't know." I am back to the question; what do I want to be when I grow up?

The plan I have had for 8 years is suddenly gone and I am lost in this big bad world. But you know what?  I had the courage to walk away from something that was making me unhappy. It was. Believe it or not, being an actor is stressful. There is so much pressure with it and you need to be a certain type of person to make it in that industry. I'm not really that type. I was fooling myself for a year and a half, trying to convince myself that being an actor was my destiny, but maybe it's not. My heart wasn't in it. It is absolutely fine to walk away. Do not keep doing something if you're not wanting to. You have control of your own life.

Everyone changes through the years. I am not the same person I was 8 years ago. I am not the same person I was 2 years ago. Everyone changes. Views change, priorities change and goals change.

Am I scared? Yes. I don''t know what I want to do with the rest of my life and I have no idea where to start. I have so many other things going on right now which I need to sort out, I need to do that first. I'm going to be 20 this year and I wont be retired until I'm probably about 70. So I have a while to decide on a career. I just need to relax for the rest of the year and enjoy life. I'm going to try and enjoy every day. Find something to do. Enjoy working, learn more and experience as much as I can with this first year of my life out of education.

Just remember this saying:  "It will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."
