SS16 High Street Wishlist

Well January, nice knowing you, time to go. Yes, it's the end of the month, pay day has come to many and the shops are FINALLY restocking their selves with their SS16 lines. THANK GOD! I don't know about you but I was getting v bored of looking at the sale rails.

Despite it being payday for the masses, I'm waiting on my student loan, which is another week so it's window shopping for me at the moment and I made little collections from my favourite shops.

RIVER ISLAND

River Island SS16 Wishlist

The blouse, the coat, the skirt, the shoes and how gorgeous in that suitcase! It's £70 though and if I'm debating on a £5 jar of coffee, the suitcase and RI might have to wait until I get some pennies. But a girl can dream right?

TOPSHOP

Untitled #30

Have to admit, not much from Topshop has caught my attention so far. But shirts seem to really be in this new season and I'm so weak when it comes to a floaty pattern shirt.

ZARA

Zara Wishlist SS16

I'll be honest, the two dresses are actually in the sale. But I love them. I'm currently justifying £8 on the blue dress. It's super cute! It could wear it with my thigh high boots and then with my yellow wedges in summer...

oooh I think I may have sold it to myself. I was always a good sales person.

Another exciting thing is that you can WIN A HOLIDAY TO SWITZERLAND HERE

What shops are looking good for you for SS16?

#STUDENTLIFE: New Year, New Semester, New Start

God this feels good! I am sat with my laptop at my desk for the first time in months! I feel alive, alert and awake. And it's 9pm. For the past few months, I slipped into some bad habits and 2016 has given me the motivation to fight back once more to keep moving forward with my goals and dreams. After some peaceful time in Ireland (there will be a post on that v soon), I have got my fire back.

I am finally getting some sleep at night and not sleeping in til 12 like I use to. I have reached out to a magazine for an internship because I am starting to think that I actually have what it takes to be a journalist and I am making more of an effort in Uni. I am already planning on meeting up with more folk from classes and I am definitely joining the film society. Right now I am finding my film and media course so exciting and it is really bringing my love for the arts back. So much so that I am writing for the online theatre magazine Ayoungertheatre.com again. I gave it up for the past 9 months or so as I just lost all want for it. But as I am researching for the interview and article I get to conduct, I am just in awe and intrigued by it all. Do you know what it's like to feel excited about something after not being excited for anything for so long? It's like I just get a rush of adrenaline and my heart is going faster than it has before. I forgot what it was like. And this is just fantastic.

I can kind of see that this is sort of going off topic from the classic #studentlife thing I had going. But see, I got carried away. #sorrynotsorry.

Anyhoo, the new semester allows a student to regroup and find their focus back on their courses and with their mates. If you hadn't done as well as you wanted in the past term, then you've got this fabulous chance to get it back!

I have promised myself that I am really going to focus and not just try and catch up on 4 months work when I have exams. I know it's just first year and "that doesn't count" but I like to do well. I actually enjoy learning and studying when I'm in the right mindset-which I totally am. I feel so much stronger and happy. I am prepared with what I have coming. Even the dreaded presentation in April (spew). But I can do it.

So let this new semester give you the kick up the arse you need! If I've got it, you've got this!

Make Up Madness

I don't know why I don't do more make up posts, it's something I can't go without. I've been wearing it everyday since I was 14 (even if my foundation was 2 shades darker than it should be) and over the years new products and techniques have been introduced. Recently I have been buying more makeup than I have clothes (whaaat?!). I know! And as the bargain hunter that I am, I have found some really great products that I just really really really want to share with you.

Here we have 3 eyeshadows, 2 highlighters and 1 concealer. These are my most used products, especially over the festive season with that gold eyeshadow 'Limitless' from Makeup Revolution. That eyeshadow is my all time favourite and it's now on sale! With a baked texture it has loads of pigmentation and gives that rusty shimmer that is just perfect for a night out. The two smaller eyeshadows; the black cased one-NO7 has a light shimmer (doesn't have a name). The clear cased one is from Catrice in Vanillaty Fair. It is perfect base and brightens up the eye area.

The 6 pallet shades on the right is from Makeup Revolution and gives all the tones needed to sculpt the face. And look at the heart on the left! Let's just take a moment to appreciate the cute packaging from MakeUp Revolution. This highlighter is also triple baked and gives the perfect light rose shimmer.

Catrice is a brand that I came across in Ireland. I haven't actually seen it here in the Uk. But it's VERY affordable and their quality seems to be really good. The concealer-in porcelain- works really well as a subtle highlighter without the shimmer. It also works quite well covering my dark circles but I also use Seventeen's Phwoar! paste.

I am just loving highlighters so much and I am obsessed with contouring-more so now after an indulgent Christmas. Even more so I am in LOVE with all the the budget make up brands that have made their way to our shops-Makeup Revolution and Freedom being 2 of them. They are so good and prove that cheap is not always crap.

What do you think of the budget brands? Or are you loyal to the high ends?

Pretty Pinafores

Top o' the morning to ye!
Before Uni starts up again, I have taken a trip to Ireland to visit my Grandparents. I always love popping over to the Emerald Isle to see them. I use to help them out in their shops and now I am helping them with the house work as my nana helps me out with my little blog. She has been playing photographer and blog idea maker for the past week. She's been fabulous! Just like the gardens that her and my granddad have cared for, which of course gave me a great opportunity for an outfit post.

The pinafore dress is something from a school memory, running about the playground with a bum-bag to hold your sparkly hair clips in. Or at least that is my Primary School memory. But the designers have been loving re-jogging our memories haven't they? And on this occasion, I am very glad they did. The re vamped suedette pinafore dress is perfect for Autumn/Winter and I'd like to think that they will be back again the following winter so it is definitely a staple. They are PERFECT for layering too. Tops, jumpers, scarves and coats, and as the roads are getting icy and snow is beginning to fall, we need all the layers we can get. These pinafore dresses are not just for the classroom.

I have been wanting to proper show off my pinafore dress from Exhibit. With my red Mac diva lipstick and a simple black turtle neck, I have the perfect winter outfit. You may have also seen this dress but in green here. I love it so much I had to get two colours. By layering necklaces  and pairing it with a range of different shoes and boots, I think I've got a winter staple right here.

As the temperatures plummet around Ireland and the UK, reminding us that winter is far from over; what are your winter must haves? The garden here is just wanting a bit more sun!

Edin-breaks

I say "break" lightly because I go back to Edinburgh almost every weekend to catch up with my friends. But over the Christmas break and my trip to Ireland, I have been missing my catch ups and I really wanted to take my new camera out for a spin. *Heads up, this is a photo heavy post*

First stop is a natter with Rebecca over lunch at Eteaket on Fredrick Street. I had heard lots of good reviews and I am always up for going somewhere where there isn't over produced, pre packaged chain food and coffee to match. This cute little cafe is full of colour and comfy seats with a really warm atmosphere. Eteaket prides itself on their unique tea range-and bloody tea heaven, their list has a menu page all to itself! I went for the mattcha latte which is green tea with sweet milk and honey. Who knew green stuff would actually taste nice?

After uni talks, work talks, life talks and the oh so famous boy talk, me and Rebecca parted ways. I hadn't actually seen Rebecca in MONTHS and it's funny how much I had to actually tell her. Texts usually contained my over used "Not much. What have you been up to?" And as soon as we sat with cups of tea, suddenly the past few months sounded a lot more eventful for the both of us.
Next catch up was a catch up with my fellow fashion and make up enthusiast Derek. And I'll be honest here now. A "quick coffee" turned into cocktails which then turned into a night out back at Stirling. But on our way to the Slug and Lettuce, we were stopped in George Street but two girls who wanted to take our photo for their Fashion society at Uni.

Well what can I say?  We don't spend my money on clothes just for fun. They're to be seen! A little bit of bloggy networking/promo doesn't go a miss either, does it?

We were buzzing!

After a long week back at Uni, it was great just to sit back, relax and enjoy the buzz of my Edinburgh again. And I'll probably do it all again next weekend!

How To Have A Good Morning!

You know those mornings when you just jump out of bed like you're from a 1950's musical and start your day with a skip and a jump?

That rarely happens.

Very. Very. Rarely.

Because for this to happen you actually have to get out of bed.

Since moving to Stirling and having the option of catching up with my 9am, 10am and 11am lectures online, sleeping until 12 and staying there has become an all too frequent hobby/time-waster/curse of mine. My sleeping schedule of finally falling asleep at 3-4am doesn't help of course. It is a horrible habit of mine which doesn't help my moods, my studies or anything I actually want to do. Could be linked to a very slight depressive state which I have been slipping into but I am ready to kick it in the balls. Hard.

It's so easy to get stuck in a rut, I know, but I think it is important to make the most of the time you have and that actually does include time before 11am. You do feel more motivated (which is one of my resolutions for 2016) and you definitely get more things done.

So here are some tips to have a good morning!

  • Make a list the night before. Giving yourself reason to get up. Even if it's to open that new coffee jar.

  • Get out of bed! THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!

  • Listen to some upbeat music. I have been listening to 'Can't stop the beat' from Hairspray. Because nothing is more upbeat than a cheesy musical number.

  • Have a morning mantra. A saying. It can even be Hakuna Matata, as long as it s positive. Mine is;

"You only have one life, so you might as well live it".

  •  Nourish your Body. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and starting it off with a healthy one will set you up right for day.

  • Be Mindful. Stay in the moment. You can't change what happened the day before or what may happen tomorrow so enjoy what you can make of your day.

Even if you don't feel positive, at the end of the day, you are in control of creating your own happiness. So make a change in that morning and go out and find something to make you smile.

Hope you have a good morning!

Psst! I also have a Giveaway! Enter it here!

New Years Blogging Resolutions

It's that time of year where we make promises to ourselves that we probably wont follow through (work out more, eat healthy, do more charity work), but I have a bunch of blogging resolutions that I really  really reeeaaallly intend to keep.

  • Get a new camera (I've got my eye on the Samsung Nx3000)
  • Work on my photography skills.
  • Organise more outfit shoots.
  • Which leads to, don't be afraid to reach out to other bloggers/photographers/brands.
  • Schedule posts and tweets.
  • Get up early!! (This does link to blogging becasue then I will have more time to blog and do uni and socialise etc).
  • Go travelling more.
  • Vlog! Yes! I am going to be jumping on the vlogging bandwagon because why the hell not! But I need a decent camera first. Oooh I'm excited!

I also have normal life resolution like eat healthier, get fit  and join a society in uni. Although the healthy one is said and failed every year, it is actually really important that I take it seriously now. It's so good for my me mentally.  And who doesn't like someone that's mentally stable!?

These goals, I want to get them all ticked my the end of January but I know that would be a lot of work. I think with any sort of resolution, you need to be realistic and give yourself leeway to complete it. Be easy on yourself and just keep moving forward bit by bit to achieve anything you wish.

I am really excited to get the blog up and running again, I'm hoping 2016 will be fabulous!

Happy New Year!
